Former Eagle Athlete and Coach Wayne Chapman Passes Away

MOREHEAD, Ky. --  Former Morehead State athlete and football head coach Wayne Chapman has passed away at age 79 at his home in Winter Haven, Fla.

As per his and his family's wishes, no services will be held, and his remains will go to be with his late wife Hildreth in West Virginia. Hildreth McBrayer Chapman was a native of Morehead.

Chapman attended Morehead State University and was a member of the basketball and football teams. He graduated from the university. Chapman later returned to his alma mater to serve as head football coach from 1976-78. Chapman helped mentor one of the most notable alums in program history, coaching eventual Super Bowl MVP Phil Simms while he was at Morehead State.

Chapman also coached football at Colorado State, University of Tampa, Youngstown State and Winter Haven (Fla.) High School.
