MARTIN, Tenn. -- Junior third baseman
Eli Boggess had four hits Sunday, but the Morehead State baseball team fell 18-6 at UT Martin as the Skyhawks broke open the game with a nine-run seventh inning.
Boggess, who now has 10 hits on the last two Sunday games, was part of an 11-hit offensive day, but the Eagles defense committed six errors. That led to eight of the UTM runs being unearned. Morehead State fell to 22-10 overall with its fourth straight setback and is now 8-4 in the Ohio Valley Conference.
Senior lefthander
Curtis Wilson (4-3)Â was charged with the loss, despite only surrendering two earned runs, in 4.1 innings.
Morehead State held a 2-0 lead in the second and a 4-2 cushion after its third-inning at-bat, but the Skyhawks answered each time the Eagles plated runs. Boggess tallied an RBI single in the third, and sophomore catcher
Hunter Fain collected two RBIs with a ground out in the third and a single in the fifth.
The Eagles' final tally came via a sacrifice fly by sophomore outfielder
Niko Hulsizer in the sixth. Hulsizer also had a single, reaching base for the team-best 16th straight game.
Connor Aube led the UTM 19-hit day with four hits, while Tanner Wessling and Josh Hauser contributed three. Aube totaled five RBI.
The Eagles return to action for a non-conference tilt at Marshall Tuesday at 3 p.m. ET.
