MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Special teams can change a football game quickly. A big return, a blocked kick or a booming punt can make the difference in winning or losing. Morehead State has worked tirelessly in the offseason to make improvements in the special teams.

"Special teams wise, I feel as if our most improved unit this year will be our PAT and field goal team," said co-special teams coordinator Milo Austin. "We gave up a few opportunities for the kick to get blocked, and I know the guys have taken the coaching and made the necessary changes to be more secure."

A pair of sophomores in Andrew Foster (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Sam McDonogh (Louisville, Ky.) will handle the majority of the field goals, PATs and kickoffs again this season.

Foster will split duties on punting with junior Bradley Boone (Maysville, Ky.). Boone boomed eight punts of more than 50 yards in 2017 and landed 10 inside the opponent 20-yard line. Foster averaged about 35 yards per boot.

Sophomore Kyle Goss (Shelbyville, Ky.) is back to handle the long and short snapping duties, with freshman Beau Griego (Florence, Ariz.) slated as the backup. Sophomore Kyle Gilbert (Hendersonville, Tenn.) will hold on kicks with Boone the backup there.

In the return game, sophomores Landon Hurst (Frankfort, Ky.) and Sugar Ray Wyche, Jr. (Louisville, Ky.), will get the chance to shine on punt returns. Hurst is a preseason All-PFL pick as a returnee.

Wyche, Jr., along with Hurst will also return kickoffs. Redshirt freshman Malik Richards (Versailles, Ky.) and junior Aaron Turk (Roswell, Ga.) should also line up to return kicks.

"Our return guys are dynamic with the ball in their hands," said Austin. "The coaching staff has done an amazing job of coaching and identifying returners that are ball secure, have long speed on kickoff return and slippery on punt return. As a whole, the guys are bought in to "WE"fense and the culture of great special teams."
