MOREHEAD, Ky. - The Morehead State softball team wrapped up their 10-game home stand, suffering defeats at the hands of the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles Sunday afternoon at University Field.
The Eagles were setback in game one of the doubleheader 13-2 and 15-3 in game two.
Morehead State moved to 2-21 on the 2019 campaign, 0-4 in Ohio Valley Conference action, while TTU improved to 12-13 overall and 2-2 in league play.
Freshman
Princess Valencia tabbed the first home run of her collegiate career in game one, knocking a 2-2 pitch over the wall in left-center field, driving home two runs.
The Eagles seemed to be on the verge of finding their groove offensively in game two. Despite a three-spot in the opening inning by the visiting Golden Eagles, Morehead State responded with a two-run inning of its own, scoring
Kalle Coleman on a single to left field that was mishandled by the Tech outfielder. Later in the frame, junior
Lindsay Anderson and freshman
Peyton Slater utilized some crafty baserunning, employing a double steal to score Slater.
The score at that juncture was 3-2 in favor of Tennessee Tech. However, as was the case with the first game, a mid-contest explosion on offense was used to propel the visitors. TTU scored 12 runs over the final three stanzas of game one and ran across 10 in the fourth period of game two.
Morehead State will face their first road test of conference slate next week, traveling to Cape Girardeau, Mo and Martin, Tenn. The Eagles will face Southeast Missouri State on Friday, before taking on UT Martin on Sunday. First pitches in both tilts will be at 2 p.m. ET.
