Softball Drops Two-Game Set Versus Marshall

MOREHEAD, Ky. – In its final home games of the 2019 season, the Morehead State softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader header to Marshall on Tuesday afternoon at University Field.

The Eagles (2-39) dropped an 11-1 (5inn.) contest in game one before falling 11-3 (5inn.) in game two.

The Thundering Herd (33-17) jumped on MSU early as they scored four runs in their first trip to the plate during both games.

The Eagles offense was held relatively in check, collecting just seven hits in both games. The team went for three hits in game one and four hits in game two.

Morehead State sophomore pitcher Sarah King recorded the first two hits of her career in blue and gold. King was 1-for-1 with a single that nearly left the yard in game one before a 1-for-2 effort in game two while driving her first-career RBI in the second inning.

In game two, after sophomore Kalle Coleman's successful squeeze bunt with the base loaded scored freshman outfielder Sarah Hallock, Coleman and freshman Princess Valencia executed a perfect double steal as Valencia slide in under a tag for an Eagles' run. The swiped bag was Valencia's first of her career while Coleman moved to 6-for-6 on stolen base attempts during the season.

Morehead State next travel to Southeast Missouri on Saturday as it kicks off its final weekend of Ohio Valley Conference play against the Redhawks.
