EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Another low-scoring match goes against MSU Soccer as the Eagles fall 1-0 to SIUE. The two clubs fought to a relatively even first half before the Cougars pulled away in the second set of 45 minutes to seal their fifth victory of the year. The loss pushes Morehead State to 1-5 on the season.
Despite the loss, MSU held SIUE to its lowest shot percentage of the year with only one of 17 shots successfully passing the net for a goal. The Eagles also held their opponent to a season-low in goals for the highest-scoring club in the conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Morehead State had a pair of early scoring opportunities including a header by Katie Kiolbassa that was saved by SIUE's goalkeeper.
- Michelle Jerantowski had a pair of saves of her own highlighted by a diving stop that glanced off her fingertips to keep the match knotted up at zero.
- The Cougars proved to be the aggressors out of the intermission as they accrued five shots within the first 10 minutes of the second half.
- SIUE finally cashed in on one of its several scoring opportunities as Ashlin West's shot slid past the outstretched arms of Jerantowski to account for the 1-0 score.
NOTABLE
- Morehead State was held to only six shots in the match including just two attempts in the second half.
- Junior goalkeeper Michelle Jerantowski tied her season-high with six saves in 90 minutes in the net.
- Four of MSU's shots were on goal for a .667 SOG%, the second-highest for Morehead State on the season.
