Swift Leads Eagles Offensively in First Match of the Season

MOREHEAD, Ky. – After nearly 500 days since its last match, Morehead State soccer finally returned to the pitch Tuesday afternoon against OVC foe Murray State. The Eagles were back in Jayne Stadium for the first time since October 14, 2018, a home victory over Jacksonville State.

Morehead State faced a tough task in defending its home as Murray State was the preseason pick to win the OVC title. The Eagles seemed up for the task early on as they earned two corner kicks within the first six minutes of action.

The first goal of the season came when Murray State's Rebecca Kubin sneaked by the the Eagle defense to score in the 24th minute. The Racers added to their lead in the 33rd minute after a deflection set up a ball for Chloe Barnthouse that slowly slid into the goal. Murray State earned its final goal of the day when Saraya Young dribbled through several Morehead State defenders to score in the 52nd minute.

The Eagles were able to chip into the Racer lead in the 63rd minute off a perfectly set ball by freshman Sidney Palla allowed redshirt sophomore Colleen Swift to put one in the back of the net. The goal coincidentally marked Swift's first since the aforementioned game against Jacksonville State. Palla earned her first career assist on the play.

In her first game in the net for the Eagles, Michelle Jerantowski played the full 90 minutes while earning five saves. Abby Wesselkamper led Morehead State with two shots on goal in her first collegiate contest.
