Soccer Falls to Southeast Missouri in Fifth Match of the Season Determined by One Score

MOREHEAD, Ky. – For the fifth time this season, a match featuring Morehead State Soccer ended with only one combined goal scored. The Eagles found themselves on the wrong end of a 1-0 loss for the fourth time this year, as it fell to OVC rival Southeast Missouri at Jayne Stadium.

"This has happened to us four out of the eight times we have played this year," said head coach Warren Lipka. "We defended well, created, and had chances. The name of the game is scoring and that is what we are missing."

Although having totaled 14 shots in the match, MSU couldn't find the back of the net to fall to 1-7 on the season. Sophomore Eva Kiper led the Eagles offensively with a career-high three shots on goal while tying her career-best mark of four total shots. Junior Michelle Jerantowski was back in the net for Morehead State to grab five saves against the Redhawks.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both teams came out a little slow with only five shots combined in the first half.
  • Morehead State had its nearest opportunities for a goal two-thirds of the way through the second half with four shots in a one minute span all being turned away by the Southeast Missouri defense.
  • Those defensive stops paved the way for a reverse attack by the Redhawks as Lauren Welker set up a goal by Abby Tremain in the 79th minute to put SEMO up 1-0 late.
  • The Eagles had one final push for a goal but Eva Kiper's shot in the 87th minute was saved by the SEMO goalkeeper as the Redhawks defeated Morehead State 1-0.

NOTABLE
  • Morehead State set a season-high with eight shots on goal in today's match.
  • The Eagles' 12 shots in the second period were the most in a half for Morehead State this season.
  • With her two shots today, redshirt sophomore Colleen Swift now leads MSU with 11 shots on the season.
  • Nine different Eagles recorded at least one shot today, tying a season-high set against Eastern Kentucky on March 12.
