Soccer Celebrates Senior Day With Double Overtime Victory Against Austin Peay

MOREHEAD, Ky. – Morehead State Soccer honored the careers of five seniors in style with a 3-2 double overtime victory against Austin Peay. After falling behind 2-0 early, the Eagles recovered to score three unanswered goals to conclude its home schedule in front of an electric Jayne Stadium crowd.

"What a game," said head coach Warren Lipka. "I'm so proud of this team coming back being down 2-0. That truly showed how this team never gave up."

MSU said goodbye to seniors Meghan Arnett, Tia Williams, Lauryn Kunz, Katie Quinn, and Ashley Ritchie tonight before sending them off with one to remember as a late penalty kick goal by Colleen Swift sent the crowd home elated by a Morehead State victory.

Eva Kiper's four total shots (three on goal) led the Eagles as she earned her first goal and assist of the season. Her one goal, one assist performance marked the first occurrence of this feat since Colleen Swift did so on October 12, 2018, against Tennessee Tech.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Austin Peay scored the first two goals of the game in quick succession as the Governors had a 2-0 lead after 24 minutes of play.
- Nicole Fiantaco secured her second career goal in the 33rd minute as her shot after an Eva Kiper corner kick got past the APSU goalkeeper to cut the lead in half.
- Eva Kiper decided to get a goal for herself as her missile shot from about 25 yards out ricocheted off the bottom of the crossbar, off the goalkeeper, then into the net as Morehead State tied the match in the 62nd minute.
- The two rivals played for over 40 more minutes without a score before an Austin Peay foul in the waning minutes of double overtime set up a penalty kick for Colleen Swift that earned the win for Morehead State.

NOTABLE
- MSU saw three Eagles score a goal in the same match for the first time since October 14, 2018, in a 3-1 win over Jacksonville State. Redshirt sophomore Colleen Swift was also a part of that trio of scorers.
- Eva Kiper once again tied her career-highs of four shots and three shots on goal as one of nine Eagles to register at least one shot.
- As part of Senior Day, all four of the honored Eagles on the active roster received the start in today's match. With this, it marked the first start for Ashley Ritchie since October 6, 2019, against Eastern Illinois along with the first start for Tia Williams since September 21, 2018, against Belmont.
- The win against Austin Peay represents the first time this season that Morehead State has won when trailing at the half, after an opponent scores first, and when playing in an overtime match.

UP NEXT
Morehead State concludes its season on the road as it travels to Nashville, Tenn. to face Belmont. The 4-4-1 Bruins host MSU for a match scheduled at 7:30 pm ET at E.S. Rose Park.
