Kingery's Two-RBI Night Not Enough for Eagles as Softball Falls to Murray State

MURRAY, Ky. – Morehead State softball had a tough go of it Friday night as it fell 14-4 to Murray State in five innings. The 14 runs allowed by the Eagles are the most by an opposing team during the 2021 season with this being the ninth time on the year that a Morehead State contest has ended via the run rule.

Kirya Kingery's two-RBI night was a highlight for the Eagles as she drove in her 11th and 12th runs of the year with a single in the second inning that represented her first RBI since an April 1 matchup against Tennessee State.

Morehead State pitchers were touched up for 14 runs on nine hits, all of which were allowed in the first three innings of action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Murray State came out hot early with a six-run first inning capped off by a grand slam that put the Racers up 6-0.
- The Eagles responded in the top of the second with an RBI single by Madeline Gailor that was immediately followed by a two-RBI single by Kirya Kingery that cut the Murray State lead in half.
- The Racers answered back in the bottom half of the inning with four more runs that came via an RBI double, bases-loaded walk, and a two-RBI single to give Murray State 10 runs after two.
- Maddie Kawall's sacrifice fly in the third scored Kelsey Sparks to give the Eagles their fourth run of the day before another grand slam by the Racers in the next half-inning put Murray State up by the final score of 14-4.

NOTABLE
- Peyton Slater extended her reached base streak to nine games while her hitting streak now sits at five games after she went 1-for-1 with a walk, HBP, and stolen base in tonight's contest.
- Madeline Gailor earned her fifth RBI of the season with her single in the second. It was her first RBI since the second game of Morehead State's doubleheader with Jacksonville State on April 26. Her two walks in tonight's game were the most for a Morehead State player since Peyton Slater and Jennifer Clausen each earned a pair of BBs against Jacksonville State on April 25.
- Morehead State broke its six-game streak of failing to steal a base after a trio of Eagles (Gailor, Slater, and Erin Boyle) each stole a bag against the Racers.

UP NEXT
Both squads conclude their seasons tomorrow afternoon with a doubleheader set for 2 pm ET at Racer Field.
