Career Nights from Wogenstahl, Wyman and McAfee Help Volleyball Rally for 3-1 Win

MOREHEAD, KY --
The Morehead State volleyball team got career-high kill nights from Irene Wogentahl, Sydney Wyman and Kinsey McAfee and rallied after losing the first set to secure a 3-1 win (31-33, 29-27, 25-21, 25-22) over the Eastern Illinois Panthers Friday at home at Johnson Arena.

The victory improved the Eagles' record to 11-11 overall and 7-4 in OVC play. MSU has now won six straight over the Panthers (13-11/7-4 OVC) at home with EIU's last victory in Morehead back in 2011.

Game Notes
» Irene Wogenstahl had a match-high nine blocks and dropped in a career-high 21 kills on a career-high .613 hitting percentage. She finished with 29 kills and just three errors on the weekend sweep of the Panthers.
» Abby Hulsman registered a double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs.
» Sydney Wyman hit .400 to go along with her 18 kills.
» McAfee saw her role increase and now has 16 kills in the last three matches.
» Morehead State put together a strong attacking performance, notching 67 kills in the match.
» Morehead State got a match-high 19 digs from Bridget Bessler and a match-high 46 assists for her 10th double-double of 2022.
» Shea Hefner served a team-high three aces.
» The Eagles had 75 digs. Peighton Isley (17), Hulsman, Bessler, Hefner (10) and Andrea Grimes (10) all reached double digit scoops in the marathon match.
» Giovana Larrequi Lopez paced EIU with 19 kills and also had nine digs, while Christina Martinez Mundo led them with 18 digs.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Eagles dropped a back-and-forth first set, losing 33-31 in a game that featured 10 lead changes and was tied 15 times. Neither team led by more than four points in the match.

SET 2 | Morehead State tied the match at 1-1 after a 29-27 second-set win. The Eagles survived a back-and-forth set to win in a stanza that featured five lead changes and was tied 16 times. Neither team led by more than four points along the way. Morehead State's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking five Eastern Illinois attacks in the stanza and capitalizing on 13 Eastern Illinois attacking errors on the way to victory.

SET 3 | Morehead State took a 2-1 match lead after taking down the Panthers in the third set. The Eagles took control of the set early when the score was 4-3 and never trailed to win 25-21. Morehead State led by as many as five points at 17-12 before closing out the stanza, collecting 17 kills in the process.

SET 4 | Morehead State finished off the match with a 25-22 fourth-set victory, winning its third straight set. A strong showing on the attacking end led the Eagles to victory in the set. Morehead State put together a .333 attack percentage with 18 kills in the set win. After the lead changed hands two times, the Eagles took control for good at 20-19 and rode that advantage to victory.
