MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Morehead State's placekicker,
Nathan Hazlett, has been recognized as one of the best 25 kickers for September in the non-FBS level by the Fred Mitchell Award.
In the first four games, Hazlett - from Danville, Ky. - was a perfect 6-of-6 on field goals and 11-of-11 on extra-point kicks. He also averaged 59 yards on kickoffs and had four touchbacks.
"It is with great pleasure that we kickoff the 2022 football season by presenting our Watch List for the annual Fred Mitchell Award," said Mitchell. "Many familiar names from the 2021 FCS, Div. II, Div. III, NAIA and community colleges top rankings appear on this list as we seek to acknowledge excellence in kicking and community service. At last check, there are kickers from 768 non-FBS colleges who will be competing for this prestigious award. Our 35-man selection committee will recognize outstanding performances each month throughout the football season before voting for a winner in December. Hazlett missed the Stetson game Saturday but is hopeful to return in two weeks when MSU travels to PFL rival Davidson.
