Volleyball Unable to Overcome Eastern Illinois Thursday

CHARLESTON, IL --The Morehead State volleyball team could not overcome a potent Panthers offense Thursday on the road, falling to Eastern Illinois in straight sets (16-25, 17-25, 20-25).

The loss dropped Morehead State's record to 8-9 overall and 1-4 in OVC action.

Maycie Welborn finished with eight kills on the day to lead the Eagles offense. MSU got nine digs from Brenna Bommer to lead them defensively.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Eagles found themselves in an early deficit, dropping a tough first set 25-16. Morehead State trailed by as many as nine points as Eastern Illinois grabbed the advantage for good at 10-9 in a set that was tied up two times before the Panthers took control.

SET 2 | Morehead State fell in set two 25-17, digging a 2-0 hole in the match. Morehead State trailed by as many as eight points as Eastern Illinois grabbed the advantage for good at 11-10 in a set that was tied up three times before the Panthers took over the lead.

SET 3 | Morehead State couldn't prolong the match and lost in set number three. The Eagles came up short by the score of 25-20. Morehead State trailed by as many as six points as Eastern Illinois grabbed the advantage for good at 9-8 in a set that was tied up seven times before the Panthers took over the lead.

Morehead State looks to rebound tomorrow as the Eagles take on EIU again at 5:00 p.m. ET.
