Women's Basketball Heads West to Face In-State Rival #18 Louisville Wednesday

MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Following a gritty win on Monday over Wheeling (W. Va.), the Morehead State women's basketball team faces both a quick turnaround and tough test on Wednesday, as the Eagles head west for a match up with the 18th ranked Louisville Cardinals. 

Morehead State comes into the game at 4-5 on the year, with all four wins coming at Johnson Arena. An upset would mark the first road win of the season for the Eagles. 

Tip-off is set for 4:00 p.m. ET from the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Ky. Fans not in attendance can catch the game live on ACC Network Extra (ACCNX), or tune in to the Eagle Sports Network (96.3 WIVY) where Tom Lewis and Wes Holland will be calling the action.

  • Morehead State had three players score in double figures on Monday, led by Katie Novik's 14 points. Hallie Rhodes (13) and Veronica Charles (10) were the others. 
  • Blessing King pulled down a season-high 15 rebounds vs. Wheeling on Monday, with eight of them on the offensive end. Led by King's OVC leading 44 offensive boards, Morehead State leads the conference in offensive rebounds. 
  • In overall rebounding, Morehead State ranks second in the conference behind only Western Illinois on the glass at 38.9 rebounds per game, with a 5.3 rebounding margin ranking second as well. 
  • Morehead State has moved the ball well in the early part of the season, ranking second in the OVC with 14.3 assists per game. Katie Novik is the OVC's leader in assists with 43, averaging 4.8 per game. 
  • Veronica Charles and Melissa Secchiaroli are the team's leading scorers, averaging 10.2 points per game. Secchiaroli is third in the conference in made three point field goals with 21, while Charles ranks among the OVC leaders in free throw percentage at 81.5%. 
  • Morehead State has forced its opponents into committing 159 turnovers through nine games for an average of 17.7. Veronica Charles and Katie Novik lead the team in steals, with Charles averaging 1.9 per game and Novik 1.7. 
  • Hallie Rhodes has been a factor both in the starting lineup and off the bench thus far this season. On Monday, Rhodes provided 13 points off the bench on 60% shooting.
