Williams' Walk Off Double Finishes Off Softball Split with Lindenwood

BOX SCORES (GAME 1 | GAME 2)

MOREHEAD, Ky. --Junior Lennon Spicer was dealing on Sunday, hurling a shutout to lead the Morehead State Softball Eagles past the Lindenwood Lions, 8-0, in six innings in game two of a doubleheader after the Lions took game one, 4-3.

Spicer (2-3) went the distance for Morehead State (10-13, 5-4 OVC), giving up seven hits, walking none and striking out seven. Lindenwood won the series, moving to 13-18 and 5-6 in the OVC.

Freshman Emily Williams led the way offensively for the Eagles, going 2-for-3 in the ballgame with two doubles, a walk and three RBI, including a walk-off two-run double to end the game early in the seventh. Junior Kaytlyn Cripps furnished a standout performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-2 with a double, a walk and an RBI. Senior Kirya Kingery also contributed, going 4-for-4 for Morehead State in game two.

HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME 1

Trailing 4-0, the Eagles first put runs on the board in the sixth inning. Morehead State plated two runs when Williams left the yard with senior Madeline Gailor aboard.

The Eagles kept the deficit at 4-2 before closing the gap further in the seventh. Morehead State scored once on a run-scoring single off the bat of junior Erin Boyle, which tightened the Lions lead to 4-3. The Eagles were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.

GAME NOTES - GAME 1

» Morehead State's highest scoring inning was the sixth, when it pushed two runs across.
» Morehead State pitchers faced 35 Lindenwood hitters in the game, allowing eight ground balls and eight fly balls while striking out four.
» Williams led the Eagles at the plate, going 1-for-2 with a home run and two RBI.
» Lindenwood was led offensively by senior Morgan Gersch, who went 2-for-2 with a double, a home run and four RBI. It was Gersch's second home run in as many games.

HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME 2

The Eagles took the lead for good in the first, scoring for the first time in the inning. Morehead State got on the board thanks to Williams' RBI double with two outs.

The Eagles then tacked on runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings, with their biggest output coming in the fifth when they scored three times. One of those three runs scored on Cripps' RBI double.

» Spicer tossed a seven-hit shutout for the Eagles.
» Kingery collected four hits on the day for Morehead State.
