Offense Stifled as Softball Drops Doubleheader

MOREHEAD, Ky. – The Eagles were held to only five hits and two runs Friday afternoon, as softball dropped both ends of their doubleheader at SEMO, falling in the first game 4-1 and in the second, 9-1.

Emily Williams drilled her eight home run of the season in the opener, tying the Morehead State freshman record for home runs in a season. Peyton Jordan contributed with an RBI triple and Kirya Kingery scored a run to go with two stolen bases.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1)
Both sides missed out on early opportunities to get on the board in the first inning, with the Eagles seeing Kirya Kingery ruled out for leaving first base early before a Peyton Jordan double and the Redhawks leaving bases loaded in the bottom half of the inning.

An outfield assist from Erin Boyle to throw out a runner at third kept the game scoreless through the second, but SEMO finally broke through with three runs in the third to open a 3-0 lead.

Madi Ogden stranded a pair of runners in the fourth, but SEMO struck again in the fifth, scoring another run before Trinity Spear gunned down a runner at the plate, recording the third outfield assist of the game for the Eagles and keeping the score 4-0.

Emily Williams cracked a solo blast in the seventh inning, but the Eagles couldn't rally any further, falling 4-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2)
After dueling scoreless innings to start the game, the Eagles opened the scoring with an RBI triple from Peyton Jordan to score Kirya Kingery. Back-to-back walks loaded the bases, but the Eagles failed to add onto their early lead.

The Redhawks quickly answered in the bottom half of the inning with five consecutive hits to bring home six runs to take a five run lead.

The Eagles were held without a hit for the rest of the game, while SEMO tacked on two runs in the fourth and another in the sixth to claim the 9-1 victory.
