Volleyball Comes Up Short at SEMO Saturday

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO --The Morehead State volleyball team could not beat a dynamic Redhawks offense Saturday on the road, falling to Southeast Missouri State in three sets (22-25, 17-25, 16-25).

The loss dropped Morehead State's record to 7-7 overall and 0-2 in OVC play.

M.E. Hargan finished with 10 kills on the day to lead the Eagles offense. Defensively, MSU had two players reach double figures in digs as Peighton Isley had 12 and Courtney Fitzgerald had 10.

» Courtney Fitzgerald had a team-high two aces in the loss.
» M.E. Hargan had a match-high 10 kills for Morehead State.
» Morehead State got a team-high 12 digs from Peighton Isley.
» Morehead State attackers were helped by a team-high 21 assists from Brenna Bommer.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Eagles came up short in a back-and-forth first set, losing 25-22 in a game that featured five lead changes and was tied eight times. Neither team led by more than three points in the match.

SET 2 | Morehead State then lost set two 25-17 to fall behind in the match two sets to none. The Eagles dropped the first point and fought from behind the rest of the way before dropping the set.

SET 3 | Morehead State was not able to win set three and was swept by Southeast Missouri State. The Eagles lost a tough set 25-16. Morehead State trailed by as many as nine points as Southeast Missouri State grabbed the advantage for good at 7-6 in a set that was tied up two times before the Redhawks took over the lead.

Morehead State returns home next week, hosting OVC newcomer Western Illinois on Friday and Saturday.
