Cheer Squads Strive to Add More Titles to Doan Dynasty Trophy Case This Weekend

1/10/2024 10:01:00 AM

MOREHEAD, Ky. -- It's a tradition unrivaled by any other competitive cheerleading program in the nation. Started by the late Myron Doan in 1988, Morehead State has 53 national championships.

This year's edition of the MSU program will strive to add more titles to the trophy case when they compete at the Universal Cheerleading Association College Nationals in Orlando Friday through Sunday.

Head coach Mark Coleman will field six different squads this season, including two partner stunt teams. Coleman has the chance to become the MSU leader with the most national titles coached. Coleman has guided the teams to 18 UCA national championships. Doan led the Eagles to 20 titles before turning over the head coach role to Tony Nash. Bill Mayo coached his share of titles as well.

MSU opens the event on Friday with the gameday squad, competing for the first time. Also the partner stunt teams of Chloe Maher/Logan Terwilliger and Nicole Guest/Zack Alleman will compete. Guest and Alleman enter as the No. 1 ranked stunt duo.

On Saturday, the main squads compete, being all-girl, large co-ed and small co-ed. Last January, the large co-ed program won its 29th all-time title, while all-girl won its 13th championship and first since 2018. A new squad for MSU at the time, small co-ed, also won its first title in its first-ever chance.

Results will be announced throughout the weekend on MSU's social media channels (@MSUEagles).
