BOX SCORE
MOREHEAD, Ky. -- It was eerily the same scenario for Morehead State Volleyball and SIUE Saturday - except it was reversed. After competing a reverse sweep to win 3-2 over the Cougars Friday, the Eagles saw SIUE engineer a reverse sweep against them in the Saturday battle.
Opposite of Friday where sets three and four were nearly perfect hitting-wise for the Eagles, MSU slammed 28 kills with just three errors in the first two frames today, winning 25-18, 25-12. But the Cougars turned the tide and ended with 13 blocks on the night, winning 25-20, 26-24 and 15-10 in the latter three stanzas.
MSU fell to 9-12 overall and 5-5 in the conference.
Despite the setback, junior
M.E. Hargan put together her sixth consecutive double-double with 20 kills and 12 digs. MSU also got 11 kills with only one mistake on the attack from junior
Sydney Wyman for a .435 efficiency.
MSU was out-dig by more than 20 in the first match with the Cougars but had a 10-dig advantage (77-67) today. Senior
Peighton Isley piled up 21 scoops. Sophomore
Courtney Fitzgerald (13), Hargan and sophomore setter
Sydney Sennett (12) also had double-digits. Sennett completed the double-double with a team-best 26 assists.Â
MSU had 61 kills on 163 swings. SIUE was forced into 29 attack errors and only hit .115. But a big difference was the Cougars' 13 service aces to six for MSU.
Sophomore
Amelia Nott did her part at the net, piling up eight total blocks.
MSU returns home this week to host OVC leader Lindenwood Thursday at 5 p.m. ET and Friday at Noon.Â
