MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Morehead State Volleyball led from wire to wire and held the league's second best attacking efficiency team to just .036 for the night as the Eagles upended Ohio Valley Conference leader Lindenwood 3-0 at Johnson Arena.
Morehead State improved to 6-5 in the conference and 10-12 overall. The Eagles put the kibosh on the Lions' seven match winning streak and also halted the series' trend of all four previous matches going to four sets.
MSU won 25-19, 25-21 and closed it with an emphatic 25-11 triumph. After the match was knotted 1-1 in the first set,
M.E. Hargan's kill set the stage for the home squad to never trail again.
Senior right-side hitter
Maycie Welborn led an offensive attack that hit just .203 but also had six aces. She posted a team-best 10 kills and hit .300.
Hargan ended with nine kills and had 10 digs, just missing her sixth consecutive double-double. Sophomore
Hollan Everett also landed nine kills. Hargan passed former MSU star Annie Gruenschlaeger for ninth place in kills in the 25-point rally scoring era (2008-present).
Defensively, the Eagles smashed back 10 blocks, including five from sophomore
Amelia Nott. Nott now has 43 total blocks in her last seven matches. Junior
Sydney Wyman had four blocks and also hit .429 on limited swings with four kills.
Lindenwood's Autumn Bax, one of the top freshmen in the OVC, had six kills to lead her team.
MSU wil go for the weekend sweep over the Lions Friday at Noon for Kids Day.
