BOX SCORE

MOREHEAD, Ky. --
Morehead State volleyball was in a great spot against Little Rock Friday night, leading 2-0. But the visiting Trojans weren't to be denied as the Eagles saw Little Rock rally for a 3-2 victory at Johnson Arena.

MSU took the opening two sets, 25-17, 25-15. But the tide turned when LR escaped with a 28-26 win in the third set. The Trojans went on to claim the fourth 25-19 and outlasted MSU 15-11 to seal their triumph.

The Eagles slipped to 5-9 on the year and 1-2 in the Ohio Valley Conference, while Little Rock moved to 8-9 overall and 3-1 in the league. The teams were playing for the first time against each other since the 2022 season.

Highlights were still aplenty for the home squad as middle blocker Amelia Nott scored a career-high eight total blocks. She also served up five of Morehead State's season-high 14 service aces. Unfortunately, MSU also surrendered 13 points on service errors.

The Eagle defense finished the night with 12 total blocks as Maycie Welborn also added five turn-backs. MSU out-dug the Trojans, who entered the match with the most total digs in the OVC, 78-67. Peighton Isley led all players with 28 digs, a season-high.

Three Eagles contributed double-digit kills as the Eagles pounded down 59 total terminations. M.E. Hargan led the way with 13, while Hollan Everett and Irene Wogenstahl landed 11. Wogenstahl was her usual efficient attacker, leading the Eagles with a .450 attack percentage. Brenna Bommer and Sydney Sennett combined for 50 of the home team's 54 assists.

Little Rock got 15 kills apiece from Bella Cherry and Kaila Harris. Vivian Lucumi tied Nott for match-honors in blocks with eight.

The defensive heavy efforts led both teams to sub .200 hitting percentages as MSU finished at .174 and LR was only at .175. The fourth frame really did the Eagles in as they were forced into a negative-.022 total. That was opposed to the third frame when MSU nailed 19 kills, made just four errors and hit .385. The match featured only eight lead changes but 23 ties, including 10 tie situations in the third set when it went to extra points.

The teams will return to the Johnson Arena court for a Saturday matinee at 2 p.m. ET.
