MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Morehead State Beach Volleyball evened its 2024 record at 2-2 with a pair of victories Saturday at Grand Sands. The Eagles swept Liberty 5-0 early, then rallied to escape with a 3-2 win over Tusculum (Tenn.) in the early afternoon.
The win over Liberty signified new head coach
Sarah Martin's first career coaching win.
Of note, No. 3 pair
M.E. Hargan and
Shea Hefner won twice and improved to 4-0 on the season.
In the win over Tusculum, the match was knotted 2-2 and it came down to the No. 1 pair where
Irene Wogenstahl and
Bella Marita rallied from a 1-0 deficit to come back and win 21-17 and 15-11 to seal the Eagle win. Besides Hargan and Hefner, freshmen
Amelia Nott and
Lily-Kate Carver also won 21-16, 21-10. It was Nott's first career pairs victory.
In the win over the Liberty Flames, Wogenstahl/Marita, Hefner/Hargan and Carver/
Courtney Fitzgerald each won straight-set decisions. Fitzgerald officially collected her first win.Â
Landyn Snowden teamed with
Brenna Bommer for her first career pairs win too as they rallied to win 12-21, 21-17, 15-9. At No. 2,
Peighton Isley and
Sydney Wyman also had a three-setter and won.
MSU's next action is at home at Giovanni's Breadstick Beach on March when McKendree (Ill.) visits for a doubleheader.
