MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Morehead State men's basketball head coach Jonathan Mattox is excited to announce that Jalen Breazeale, a 5-foot-11 guard, has transferred to the Eagle program from USC Upstate.
Breazeale is a native of Greenville, S.C., and prepped at the same high school as former Eagle point guard Ta'Lon Cooper, Dorman High School.
Breazeale spent three seasons at USCU, taking a redshirt year in 2022-23.Â
"Jalen is a dynamic point guard who is capable of running a team, setting his teammates up, as well as creating his own shot," said head coach Jonathan Mattox. "He was really playing his best basketball toward the end of the season! We will use Jalen to both score and facilitate, and we're certainly excited to have him."
He became the Spartans' primary point guard in 2023-24 and averaged 6.0 points and 3.2 assists. Breazeale scored in double figures six times, including four of the last six games. The Spartans' final game saw him notch a season high 19 points. He also totaled 26 assists in the last four games.
As a freshman in 2021-22, he appeared in 30 games, making nine starts. Breazeale averaged 4.1 points and 1.9 rebounds per game. His season scoring high came against SEC foe South Carolina when he tallied 17 points.
At Dorman, Breazeale was South Carolina 5A Player of the Year in 2020-21. He had a standout senior season, averaging 16.0 points and 5.0 assists. He also shot 54 percent from the field, 44 percent from three-point range and 80 percent at the free throw line.
