MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Steven Clay, a 6-4 wing from Milwaukee, has chosen the Morehead State men's basketball program to transfer to. Clay heads to MSU following two years at Illinois-Chicago.
"Steven Clay is a player I have great familiarity with from playing against him in the Missouri Valley Conference the last two seasons," said new head coach Jonathan Mattox. "He is a player who can shoot the ball from the perimeter as well as get to the rim. He is extremely long, with a 7-foot wingspan and is active on the defensive end of the floor. Steven is a great fit for us."
Clay averaged 4.5 points and 1.5 rebounds during the 2023-24 season while hitting 42 percent overall and 34 percent from three-point range. In two seasons, Clay was efficient at the free throw line, hitting 82 percent. Last season, he hit 95 percent at the stripe.
Clay scored a career-high 18 points against Middle Tennessee in 2023-24 after scoring 17 against Evansville his freshman season.
Clay was a three-star recruit (247Sports.com) and the No. 6-rated player in Wisconsin, prepping at Menomonee Falls High School. As a senior, he averaged 19.3 points, 7.6 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.4 blocks per game while leading MFHSÂ to a 25-4 record.
He scored 1,646 career points, averaging 18.1 for his career at MFHS. He also played for Phenom University in the EYBL.
