MOREHEAD, Ky. -- It has been quite the season for baseball's
Roman Kuntz.
The Eagle offense has been a juggernaut this season, averaging nearly 10 runs per game and ranking among the nation's best in nearly every offensive category. Kuntz has played a pivotal role in that offensive output, and finds himself on the verge of history with seven games left in the regular season.
The senior has hit 26 home runs this season, tied for second most in both Morehead State and OVC history with former MSU all-time home run leader Cary Page (2002), A.J. Kirby-Jones (Tennessee Tech, 2010), and Jason Hinchman (Tennessee Tech, 2022). He needs one home run to tie and two home runs to break the MSU & OVC single season record of 27, held by Niko Hulsizer (2017).
His two-homer game on Sunday put him at 50 career home runs at MSU, making him the second player in Morehead State history with 50 career HR, joining teammate and all-time leader
Ryley Preece. Kuntz is the 10th player in OVC history to hit 50 home runs.
In addition to his home run output, Kuntz is up to 76 RBI on the season, tying for second in a single season in program history with Kevin Matuszek (2002). Kuntz is just six RBI shy of tying the Morehead State single season record of 82, held by Niko Hulsizer (2017). Kuntz is 10 RBI from tying and 11 RBI from breaking the OVC single season RBI record, held by Wes Cunningham (86 RBI, Murray State, 2010.
With just seven games remaining in the regular season, Kuntz has an opportunity to make this already historic season the greatest offensive season in both Morehead State and OVC history.
Kuntz and the Eagles are back in action this weekend at Eastern Illinois.
