Morehead, Ky.--Â The new era of Morehead State Football hosted its first Media Day Wednesday. Four Eagle players, offensive lineman Jaxsen Spears, running back James Louis, defensive lineman Paul O'Brien and defensive back Jihad McCall met with the assembled media along with first-year Head Coach Jason Woodman.
A common theme from the players is one of increased togetherness as a team.
"We're playing much more as a team," said Spears.
"Definitely a bigger family atmosphere around the team," said O'Brien.
The players also pointed out the changes a new coaching staff brings to the program.
"The tempo of practice is completely different," said Louis. "It's brought a lot of excitement to the whole team. Everybody is working harder than in the past."
"We know how close we are," said O'Brien. "We are not rebuilding; it's a matter of finishing games this year. We are definitely ready to win."
Woodman said he likes what he has seen from his squad so far.
"We've challenged them this fall and been tough on them. They've responded to those challenges...One of the things that develops culture is how we attack things every day. Our coaches have set a standard and have challenged our players, and our players have responded and have worked hard to meet those challenges... It usually takes a year for guys to figure it out. It's not so much the physical challenge but the mental growth that we can see from them."
The Eagles open their 2024 campaign against Central State (Ohio) on Thursday, Aug. 29th at home in Jayne Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m. ET.
