Eagle Men Strive to Keep Up Winning Streak When They Visit SIUE Saturday

MOREHEAD, Ky. --  Morehead State Men's Basketball will strive to keep up its winning streak (5 straight) when it visits SIUE for a Saturday afternoon contest at 4:30 p.m. ET.

Morehead State will be looking for its first win at SIUE in the last two seasons. In the last 10 games in the series, however, the Eagles are 7-3 against the Cougars. 

SIUE is right behind the Eagles in the league race, at 6-3. Ray'Sean Taylor leads the conference in scoring at more than 18 points per game.

The game can also be heard on the Eagle Sports Radio Network (WIVY-96.3 FM flagship station as well as WGOH in Grayson, Ky.) with Chuck Mraz and Matt Schabert. It is also available on MSUEagles.com. ESPN+ will air the game.

NOTABLE
• MSU owns an OVC-best 66-17 league record in the last five seasons, good for 10th in the nation among all D1 teams in terms of conference winning percentage.

• Morehead State is 4-1 in OVC road games this year. In those five games, opponents only averaged 63.5 points per game on their home floors.

• The Eagles are 32-3 in the last two years when they out-rebound their opponent.

• Head coach Jonathan Mattox has led MSU to its best program record after 20 games for a first-year head coach, tying Bobby Laughlin's first year in 1953-54 when MSU was 13-7.

• With the Eagles' 10-1 record in the last 10, this marks the fifth consecutive season Morehead State has had at least one run of 10 wins in an 11-game span. The best came in 2020-21 when the Eagles finished the season with 19 wins in their last 20 games. Other similar success runs included 13-1 in 2021-22, 11-1 in 2022-23 and 12-1 last season.

• In the past five seasons, MSU is 101-3 when it holds a lead with a minute left in regulation.

• Five Eagles scored in double figures at Eastern Illinois, marking the second straight game with 5 in double figure points.

• The Eagles were 21-for-40 from three-point range in the last two games, after not hitting more than five treys in the past five games prior to that. 

Jerone Morton has scored in double figures in nine of the last 10 games. He averaged 12.7 ppg in the last 10.

George Marshall averaged 19.0 ppg in the last two, including scoring a career-high 24 at Eastern Illinois Thursday in just his second career start.

• Kenny White, Jr. has scored 943 career collegiate points.

• In the past 12 games, Tyler Brelsford has missed just three free throws. He is 34-of-36 at the FT stripe since the Dec. 7 game at Ohio.

• After having the program's lowest assist total in more than 25 years (2) against Western Illinois last Thursday, the Eagles responded by handing out 21 assists against Lindenwood and 16 at Eastern Illinois. 

Dieonte Miles blocked a career-high four shots at Eastern Illinois, and all four led to transition points for the Eagles on the other end.

• The Eagle program has nine 20+ win seasons in the last 15 seasons.
