Eagle Women's Hoops Set to Host Kentucky Christian Sunday

Morehead, Ky. – The Morehead State women's basketball gets back to action Sunday when they host Kentucky Christian in their last non-conference game of the season. The game can be heard on the Eagle Sports Network with Tom Lewis and Wes Holland on the call. It can also be seen on ESPN+ with Jared Stacy and Dean Hardin. Tipoff is set for 4:30 p.m. ET.
 
Morehead State is coming off a 78-59 loss to Southern Indiana last Saturday in Evansville. Laura Toffali led the Eagles with 20 points, hitting eight of her 10 free throw opportunities. Kate Dike chipped in 12, her sixth straight game in double-figures.
 
Kentucky Christian has enjoyed an extended Christmas break; the Knight's last outing a 88-74 loss to Indiana East in their River States Conference opener in Grayson on December 13. Bell Sparks led KCU with 19 points, Mikyra Caudill added 13 and Aubrey Daulton finished with 10. KDU outrebounded Indiana East 32-28, but 28 turnovers hampered the Knights' effort.

NOTABLE
  • Morehead State leads the Ohio Valley Conference averaging 27.5 three-point attempts per game. That ranks 22nd in the country in NCAA Division I. The Eagles are hitting 27.0 percent from beyond the arc, which ranks 11th in the OVC.
  • Morehead State is averaging 7.4 three-point shots made per game, which is second in the OVC. Lindenwood leads the OVC averaging nearly 8.1 made treys per game. Violet McNece leads MSU averaging two treys per game (T-6th in OVC). Anja Ekstrom averages 1.7 three-pointers per game (T-13th in OVC).
  • MSU ranks 8th in the conference averaging 63.8 points per game. Western Illinois leads the OVC scoring at a 82.5 points per game clip.
  • The Eagles have run hot and cold at the free throw line so far this season. Last Saturday at Southern Indiana, MSU hit 14 of 23 (60.9%) at the charity stripe. In the Eagles' conference opener against Little Rock, they hit 20 of 24 attempts (83%) from the line, matching their season high. Morehead State is hitting 66.1% from the line to-date this season, which ranks 9th in the OVC.
  • Three Eagles are perfect from the free throw line this season: Landon Forbes (15-15), Anja Ekstrom (6-6) and Josefine Enander (4-4).
  • Southern Indiana out-rebounded MSU 40-27 last Saturday. The Eagles have been out-rebounded in all but three games so far this season. Two of those games, MSU won the battle on the glass: at Bellarmine on November 7 (+11 margin) and at Louisiana on December 7 (+14 margin). In MSU's win over Marshall on November 30, rebounds were even.
  • Kate Dike leads MSU averaging 13.6 points (T-10th in OVC) and 6.5 rebounds per game (T-9th in OVC). Dike scored 12 points against Southern Indiana, her sixth straight game scored in double figures and seventh time this season.
  • Dike leads Morehead State hitting 36% (12-33) from three-point range. Last season she did not attempt a single trey.
  • Laura Toffali is second on the club averaging 12.8 points per game (16th in the OVC) and 5.1 rebounds per game (20th in OVC).  The Italian ranks second in the OVC averaging 2.5 steals per game. She has tallied 30 thefts this season. She had back-to-back games (Nov. 22 vs. USC-Upstate and Nov. 26 vs Eastern Kentucky) where she racked up five thefts.
  • Toffali posted her first double-double of the season on November 26th against Eastern Kentucky, posting a career-high 24 points and a season-high 10 rebounds.
  • Toffali's 20 points last weekend at Southern Indiana represented her ninth double-figure game and her fourth with 20+ points.
  • Marie Sepp leads the Ohio Valley Conference averaging 5.5 assists per game. That ranks 27th in the country in Division I. The Eagles rank 3rd in the OVC averaging 13.3 assists per game.
  • Sepp posted the Eagles' first triple-double in a decade in Morehead State's loss to Murray State on December 3. The senior from Estonia posted 12 points, 10 rebounds and set a new career-high with 13 assists.
