MOREHEAD, Ky. -- The interim tag on baseball coach Chris Rose has been removed, and Morehead State has appointed Rose as its full-time head coach.

Rose, who will be in his fourth season on staff at Morehead State, has extensive head coaching experience in the junior college ranks and helped lead the Eagles to an OVC regular season championship in 2023. MSU finished as conference tournament runners-up in 2024.

Rose helped coach some of the most prolific players in program history, including Roman Kuntz in 2024 when he set the school and conference records for home runs and RBI in a season. He also helped mentor Ryley Preece, career record holder in multiple categories at MSU.

"I am excited to promote Chris Rose from his interim head coach role into the full-time position of head baseball coach at Morehead State," said Director of Athletics Kelly Wells. "Chris has demonstrated tremendous commitment to MSU as an assistant coach, and we are confident in his ability to lead the Eagle baseball program.  We look forward to his leadership and the continued success of our ball club under his direction."

From 2011-18, Rose was head coach at East Mississippi College. He led all the conference coaches in most players drafted, most playing at four-year schools, most playing at Division I programs, most playing in the SEC, most receiving baseball scholarships, and highest average Division I baseball scholarships per players coached. The Lions were the 2014 division champions, 2015 MACJC runners-up and Region 23 tournament participant and took part in the state tournament in 2011, 2014, 2015 and 2017. His team was nationally ranked in three seasons, including the highest ranking in program history.

Prior to East Mississippi, Rose was the head coach at Meridian (Miss.) Community College from 2005-10. His 2005-06 recruiting class included 12 all-state players, the Mississippi "Mr. Baseball" and the No. 2-rated player in Canada. As pitching coach, he helped one of his athletes to the Mississippi Junior College Pitcher of the Year. In each season he was at the helm, Meridian won either a conference championship, state championship, or region championship.

He began his coaching foray at his alma mater, Mobile (Ala.), where he was an assistant coach for three seasons. Teams he mentored led the league in lowest ERA all three seasons, and Mobile took part in the 2001 NAIA World Series.
