Doiron notches 7 RBIs in Morehead State's 16-6 win against Western Illinois

MOREHEAD, Ky. --Nyla Doiron racked up seven RBIs to help propel the Morehead State Eagles over the Western Illinois Leathernecks 16-6 on Sunday.

Emma Solis (3-14) started in the circle and picked up the win for Morehead State (7-38, 5=17). The right-hander went four innings, giving up six runs, all of them earned, on 10 hits, allowing four walks and striking out three. Sela Pickford also made an impact in the circle for the Eagles, starting the ballgame and throwing one shutout inning while allowing one hit.

Doiron went 2-for-2 with two doubles in addition to her seven RBIs for the Eagles. Taikibrea Campbell put together a noteworthy performance as well, going 1-for-1 with a double, two walks and three RBI. Darlene Montoya also helped out for Morehead State, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding a walk and two RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Eagles were trailing 1-0 in the first inning when they first put runs on the board. Morehead State's offense started clicking and put up six runs, including a three-run double off the bat of Campbell and a three-run double from Doiron.

The Eagles then held the Leathernecks scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. Morehead State managed to push across two runs in the inning, which brought the Eagles lead to 8-1.

Western Illinois narrowed Morehead State's lead to 8-4 before the Eagles stretched the advantage to 11-4 in the third inning.

The Leathernecks fought back, closing the gap to 11-6 until Morehead State added some insurance in the fourth. The Eagles scored five runs in the inning, highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of Doiron and a two-run single from Montoya, bringing the Morehead State advantage to 16-6. The score remained 16-6 for the rest of the game, as the Eagles coasted to the win.
