Morehead, Ky. -- Morehead State shot a season-high 48% from three-point range and ran its winning streak to five games with a 65-59 win over Southeast Missouri Saturday afternoon in Johnson Arena.
Â
Morehead State (9-8/ 4-2 OVC) hit ten of their 21 three-point tries including five of seven in the second half. The Eagles were led by
Kate Dike with 17 points. Dike hit seven of her nine field goal tries, including both of her three-point attempts. Hampered by foul trouble, Dike only played for 16 minutes. She fouled out with 6:43 to play.
Â
"I'm impressed with this group," said MSU head coach Ashton Feldhaus. "Once again, we found a different way to win a basketball game. We had some people come in and play some big minutes and we just found a way to win without Kate."
Â
Landon Forbes finished with 15 points, her second straight game with double figures and the fifth this season. Forbes hit four of her six field goal attempts, including three of five from three-point range.
Â
"Landon is resilient. She allows herself to be coached and makes adjustments every single game," said Feldhaus. "She had the hot hand and our kids did a good job (finding her). She gave us huge minutes again off the bench."
Â
Turnovers were a major factor in the first half. Southeast Missouri (5-10, 1-5 OVC) turned the ball over 14 times in the first twenty minutes, while Morehead State committed 10. The Eagles shot 10-27 (37%) from the floor in the half while SEMO shot 7-19 (37%). The Eagles took a 29-23 lead into the intermission.
Kate Dike scored 12 points in the first half.
Â
The Eagles stretched the lead to 10 on a
Josefine Enander three-pointer at the 5:56 mark. Morehead State hit five of ten from the floor and three of four from three-point range and led 45-36 heading into the final quarter.
Â
Midway through the fourth quarter, the Redhawks used an 8-1 run to cut the Eagle lead to 53-51 with 3:30 to go. Morehead State got three driving layups from
Marie Sepp and a Forbes three-pointer to seal the victory. Sepp led the Eagles with nine rebounds. MSU shot 7-13 (54%) from the floor in the final quarter, including two of three from three-point range.
Â
Southeast Missouri was led by Kearra Jones, who posted a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Redhawk leading scorer Carmen Taylor added 14.
Â
Morehead State returns to the road next week for a Tennessee swing. The Eagles travel to Tennessee State Thursday. Tipoff is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. ET. The game can be heard on the Eagle Sports Network and can be watched on ESPN+.
