Morehead, Ky. -- Morehead State's women's basketball team wraps up their St. Louis-area road swing Saturday in Edwardsville, Illinois, to take on the SIUE Cougars in First Community Arena. Morehead State is coming off a 51-50 win at Lindenwood on New Year's Day. The Eagles flew out of the gates, scoring the first seven points of the game and led by as much as 15 midway through the second quarter. MSU led 50-37 with 4:55 remaining in the game and managed to hold off a furious Lindenwood rally. The Eagles got a free throw from Marie Sepp with two-tenths of a second remaining to clinch the win. Sepp finished with 12 points in the game, Laura Toffali led Morehead State with 17 points. Kate Dike just missed a double-double with eight points and 10 rebounds.

SIUE was knocked off 70-55 by Southern Indiana Thursday in Edwardsville. The Cougars were led by Kiyoko Proctor and Adebukola Akomolafe with 11 points apiece. SIUE out-rebounded USI 39-34 but shot just 36% from the floor and went just three of 15 (16%) from three-point range.

  • Morehead State has put up 385 three-pointers this season and leads the Ohio Valley Conference averaging 27.5 three-point attempts per game. That ranks 19th in the country in NCAA Division I. The Eagles are hitting 28.8 percent from beyond the arc, which ranks 9th in the OVC.
  • Morehead State is averaging 7.9 three-point shots made per game, which ranks second in the OVC behind Lindenwood's 8.1 treys per game. SIUE ranks third in the conference averaging 6.6 three-pointers per outing. Violet McNece leads MSU averaging 1.9 treys per game (T-6th in OVC). Anja Ekstrom averages 1.6 three-pointers per game (13th in OVC).
  • MSU ranks 7th in the conference averaging 66.5 points per game. Western Illinois leads the OVC scoring at an 82.1 points per game clip. SIUE ranks 8th in the OVC averaging 64.4 points per game.
  • Two Eagles are perfect from the free throw line this season: Ekstrom (6-6) and Josefine Enander (4-4). Landon Forbes missed both her free throw attempts last Sunday against Kentucky Christian and is 15-17 at the line. McNece is 16-18 at the line and Irene Fernandez Pavesio is 6-7 on the season.
  • Enander had a breakout game Sunday against Kentucky Christian, scoring a career-high 23 points. The sophomore hit seven of her eight three-point attempts and went 8-13 from the field. She also set career highs with five rebounds, four assists and four steals. She was named the OVC Newcomer of the Week for her performance.
  • The Eagles out-rebounded Lindenwood Thursday 24-23 and are 4-0 this season when they win the battle on the boards. MSU has been out-rebounded in all but five games so far this season. The other games MSU won the battle on the glass: at Bellarmine on November 7 (+11 margin), at Louisiana on December 7 (+14 margin) and versus Kentucky Christian on December 28 (+15 margin). In MSU's win over Marshall on November 30, rebounds were even making the Eagles 5-0 on the campaign when they don't lose the rebounding battle.
  • Laura Toffali paces Morehead State averaging 13.4 points per game (8th in the OVC). In MSU's three conference games, Toffali averaged 16.3 points per game. She has scored in double-figures in 11 games this season. The Italian is statistically tied at the top of the OVC averaging three steals per game, with Southern Indiana's Shannon Blacher. She has tallied 42 thefts this season. Last Sunday against Kentucky Christian, she had nine steals, believed to be the program record. She had back-to-back games (Nov. 22 vs. USC-Upstate and Nov. 26 vs Eastern Kentucky) where she racked up five thefts.
  • Toffali hit 78% from the free throw line last season under Coach Feldhaus at Missouri Western. After a slow start at the line this season, she has warmed up the last four games, hitting 24-30 (80%) from the charity stripe and raising her season free throw percentage to 64.7%.
  • Kate Dike is second on the club averaging 13.2 points (10th in OVC) and 6.6 rebounds per game (8th in OVC). Dike had a seven-game double-figure scoring streak snapped Thursday at Lindenwood. She just missed her fourth double-double of the season with eight points and 10 rebounds. She also posted a new career-high dishing out six assists.
  • Dike leads Morehead State hitting 39% (14-36) from three-point range. Last season she did not attempt a single trey.
  • Marie Sepp leads the Ohio Valley Conference averaging 5.21 assists per game. That ranks 33rd in the country in Division I. The Eagles rank 2nd in the OVC averaging 14.9 assists per game.
  • Sepp posted the Eagles' first triple-double in a decade in Morehead State's 85-78 loss to Murray State on December 3. The senior from Estonia posted 12 points, 10 rebounds and set a new career-high with 13 assists.
  • McNece leads Morehead State with 10 blocked shots this season. She is tied with SIUE's Syanne Mohamed for 9th in the Ohio Valley Conference.
