MOREHEAD, Ky. -- The Morehead State Men's Golf Team looks to begin its 2026 campaign on the right foot as they head to Playa Del Carmen, Mexico, to compete in the Compadres Collegiate, hosted by The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. According to records, this will be the first known tournament outside of the United States that Morehead State has competed in.Â
The three-day event over the par-72, 6,701-yard Playa Paraiso Golf Club Course will be a 54-hole stroke-play event.
The Eagles had a successful 2025 campaign. One of the biggest highlights came from their record-breaking, second place, finish in the Derek Dolenc Invitational. The Eagles broke the school record for a team total in a 54-hole tournament (833). It was previously 834 at the JT Poston Invitational in 2019. They also broke the record for a team score of -19.Â
Seamus Bogan was selected as a Player to Watch in the Ohio Valley Conference this season. Bogan leads the team and ranks 11th in the OVC with a 72.4 average after the five fall events.Â
Head Coach
Matthew Martin highlights his excitement for the opportunity to play in Mexico.Â
"We are thankful for the opportunity to travel to warmer weather and actually see some green grass," Martin followed. "We will work hard to improve every day and come back ready for the rest of the spring."
