Eagle Men Turn Attention to SEMO Matchup Saturday

MOREHEAD, Ky. --  Morehead State's men's basketball team has turned its attention to finishing the weekend on a strong note. The Eagles host Southeast Missouri Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET.

In a somewhat reversal of norms, Morehead State has won the last five meetings with SEMO in Cape Girardeau, Mo., but the Redhawks have taken two of the last three in Johnson Arena. Overall, MSU still owns a commanding 39-23 lead. The last meeting in Johnson Arena between the two resulted in SEMO's largest ever win on the road vs. MSU, 80-51.

SEMO is 4-1 in the league and 9-7 overall. Brenden Terry erupted for 30 points off the bench Thursday as the Redhawks upended Southern Indiana in Evansville.

NOTABLE
• Morehead State has a 116-66 overall record since 2020-21, or 64 percent success rate. That figure ranks No. 1 for winning percentage in the Ohio Valley Conference in that span. The program has had nine 20-win seasons since 2008-09.

• The last two games have been complete opposites for the Eagles. MSU erased a 15-point second-half deficit to rally and win 73-72 at SIUE on Jan. 3. Thursday, the Eagles built a 16-point lead late in the first half but could not hold it together and saw UT Martin rally for a 76-68 win.

• The program has had particular success in the first half of the conference schedule. MSU started OVC action 9-1 last season and was 11-1 at one point in 2023-24. The Eagles have kick-started the 2025-26 OVC action 3-2. In the past three seasons, MSU is 23-4 in OVC games played in the first half of the conference season.

• Morehead State has won six consecutive overtime contests. The last time MSU dropped an overtime affair was in the final game of the 2019-20 season against Tennessee State in the OVC Tournament.

• Morehead State has hit at least one three-pointer in 196 straight games. The last time MSU did not hit a triple was Jan. 16, 2020 at Tennessee State.

Jon Carroll contributed his fifth double-double of the season (ranks second in the OVC in double-doubles) Thursday vs. UT Martin with 13 points and a career-high 13 rebounds. Carroll and UTM's Andre Bukumirovic entered ranked 1-2 in the OVC in rebounds, and Carroll topped Bukumirovic 13-5 on the boards.

Jon Carroll averaged 14.7 points and 9.2 rebounds per game in the last four contests. In that span, he hit 62 percent from the field.

Chase Dawson and Davion Cunningham are closing in on 800 career collegiate points. Dawson (773) leads Cunningham (720) slightly. Tamaury Releford just scored his 500th career point at SIUE last week.

• Counting his season at Itawamba (Miss.) College, George Marshall now has 889 career points in college. He's scored 454 in his three seasons at MSU.

Vince Dawson III had a breakout game Thursday vs. UT Martin. The freshman from nearby Georgetown, Ky., nailed all four of his three-pointers and scored a career-high 13 points - all in the first half.

• Morehead State had more offensive rebounds (18) than defensive boards (15) against UT Martin.
