MOREHEAD, Ky. – The Eagle/Knight Invitational proved to be a success for co-hosts Morehead State and Kentucky Christian as Friday's competition at the Eagle Trace Golf Course in Morehead provided solid performances to go along with ideal weather for a cross country race.

It was the first home meet for the Eagles since 2023 and both the first 6K competition this season for the Blue and Gold women and the first time any of Morehead State's entries had run on the Eagle Trace course.

MSU doctoral student Aidan Massey won his first collegiate race, capturing the men's 8K title by 20.15 seconds after crossing the line in 24:51.35. His performance helped the Eagles to a runner-up team finish.

Among the women, MSU freshman Shelby Lamb moved into third place on the Eagles' all-time top performers' list by taking second overall in 21:32.56 over the 6K course. It is believed to be the fastest 6K debut in school history. That time also moved her into third in the Ohio Valley Conference this season. Lamb has led the Blue and Gold in all four races this fall.

The Morehead State ladies placed fourth in the team standings.

Subtracting all the first-timers, only two of MSU's 22 entries secured a "pr" on the tough course. Sophomore Sydney Filippazzo was 29th overall and 28th collegiately, finishing her first 6K race, while placing fifth on the team in 24:39.21. Sophomore Addison Hill also completed her first 6K and captured 39th overall and 38th collegiately in 26:20.94.

Marshall claimed both team titles. The Thundering Herd men scored 23 points to out-distance the host Eagles (44 points), Louisville (83 points), Northern Kentucky (100 points) and Brescia, Ky. (125 points). A total of 52 runners from 10 schools toed the starting line for the men's race.

Led by Rachael Withrow, who set a new course record in 20:07.90, breaking the old mark by nearly 35 seconds, Marshall collected 40 points in the women's competition. Louisville took second with 52 points, followed by Northern Kentucky with 61 points, Morehead State with 70 points and Kentucky State with 145 points. Nine teams had representatives spread out over 56 entrants.
