MOREHEAD, Ky, -- Following a tied-3rd performance from
Seamus Bogan, aiding a Morehead State ninth place finish, the Men's Golf team is set to compete in the Kemper Lakes Intercollegiate in Kildeer, Ill., Oct. 5-6.Â
The tournament is a 54 hole tournament, with golfers playing 36 holes on Monday, and 18 holes on Tuesday.
"This will be our toughest test of the year," said Head Coach
Matthew Martin. "Any time you get to play a course that has hosted a Major Championship, it is special. Â I look forward to seeing how we handle the challenges of the day."
Kemper Lakes Golf Club is one of the top courses in the Chicago area. It has hosted the 1989 PGA Championship, won by Payne Stewart, as well as the 1992 US Women's Amateur Championship, the 2018 KPMG Women's PGA Championship, and four PGA Grand Slam of Golf events. In addition, it has hosted numerous Champions Tour and Korn Ferry Tour tournaments.
The Eagles are coming off the SIUE Dolenc Invitational in which they placed ninth, but weren't far away from placing much higher. MSU was only 12 strokes behind of fourth place, finishing with a final score that ranked as the 15th-best tournament score by the program over the past 15 seasons.
The bright spot came from Bogan. He carded a 68-68-69—205 (-8), marking the sixth-best tournament performance by a Morehead State golfer over the past 15 seasons based on final score and score relative to par.
Bogan led the Eagles in all three rounds, earning his fourth career top-five finish and his third career top-three finish.
The best part is, his driver broke before round three started, so he played the entire third round with a five-wood as it was his longest club.
He tied for third in par-4 scoring average (3.89), tied for seventh in par-5 scoring average (4.42) and tied for fifth in pars (38).
Following the tournament, Bogan was named Ohio Valley Conference Co-Golfer of the Week for the second time in his career.
