Morehead, Ky. -- Morehead State rallied from an early hole but fell short to Southern 5-3 Friday Night at Lee-Hines Stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Morehead State (3-6) committed two errors in the bottom of the first inning leading to two unearned runs and another in the bottom of the second inning leading to another unearned run.

The Eagles got on the board in the top of the second innings when designated hitter
Ian McCubbin doubled into the left field corner. MSU right fielder
Davis Germann plated McCubbin with a single through the left side.

Morehead State evened it up in the fourth inning. Germann smacked a two-out single up the middle, then stole second base. Eagle second baseman
Nick Griffith drove a double into right center to score German. Shortstop
Jaden Correa drove in Griffith with a double down the left field line.

Southern (3-6) tacked on solo runs in the fifth and seventh innings for the final score.

Landon Waugh (0-2) took the loss. Waugh threw five innings, giving up four runs (one earned). He allowed three hits and three walks. The sophomore from Louisville struck out eight Southern batters.

Southern starter Bobby Spencer (1-1) earned the win. He struck out 10 MSU batters in six innings pitched. Myles Dismute (1) earned a three-inning save, allowing just one hit and recording four strikeouts.
