MOREHEAD, Ky. – After a first place finish by men's golfer
Seamus Bogan and a top-20 finish from women's golfer
Isabella Wiley, each were named Oho Valley Conference Golfer of the Week.
Bogan, who put together one of the best tournament performances in Morehead State history at the (South Dakota State) Jackrabbit Invitational, came out victorious after the two-day tournament in Boulder City, Nev. He finished with a score of 66-69-69--204 (-12) and swept the competition. The next closest competitor finished six under par.
"Seamus played outstanding this week," said Head Coach
Matthew Martin. "The course set up well for him, but you still have to execute each shot and roll some putts in. Leading a tournament from start to finish is a difficult task, but that's exactly what he did."
Bogan put together a top-five round in the past 15 years of Morehead State golf, shooting six under par in the first round and leading the tournament from the very beginning. Bogan's first place finish is the first time an Eagle has finished first since Joe Muschong won the OVC Championship in 2022. Bogan's score of 12 under par is the second best performance in the past 15 years, the best since Logan Hogge shot 14 under par in the Austin Peay Intercollegiate in 2014.
He finished first in total birdies during the tournament with 16. He also finished tied for first in par-4 scoring average and tied for second in par-3 scoring average.
Wiley scored a 13th place finish at the MSU Southern California Spring Invitational in Camarillo, Calif. She turned in a 77-70-73--220, and it was her first time leading the Eagle fivesome. Wiley also collected her first-ever OVC Golfer of the Week.
She now has three career top-20 finishes.
"I am happy for Isabella in getting Golfer of the Week," said head coach
Stephanie Barker. "She improved from round to round in tough weather conditions, and I am glad to see her honored."
Bogan and the men's golf team are back in action at the Keene Trace Collegiate in Nicholasville, Ky., on Mar. 24 - an event MSU is the host team for. Wiley and the women's golf team are set to stay out west for their next event, competing in the women's side of the Jackrabbit Invitational (also hosted by South Dakota State) in Boulder City on March 16-17.
