Correa's Blast in the Ninth Lifts Eagles to 6-5 Comeback Win Over SEMO

Correa 3-4, 2 HR and Six Shutout Innings Out of the Pen Keys to Win

Morehead, Ky.-- Morehead State shortstop Jaden Correa drilled a towering one-out home run in the top of the ninth to propel the Eagles to a 6-5 comeback win over Southeast Missouri Sunday at Capaha Park in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

Morehead State (17-18, 5-7 OVC) trailed 5-4 heading to the ninth inning. Eagle first baseman Brayton Coomer drew a one-out walk to set the table. Correa took a pitch for ball one, then drilled a towering drive over the fence in deep left center field to give MSU the lead.

Correa's heroics in the ninth was his second round-tripper of the day. In the second inning, after Coomer smacked a one-out double to right-center, Correa drilled a liner over the fence in right to put the Eagles ahead 4-0. He finished the day with three hits in four at-bats with four RBI and scored two runs.

Devin Costa (2-1) picked up the win out of the bullpen. He got the last out of the seventh inning and closed out the final two frames. He allowed two hits and hit two batters while recording one strikeout.

Cole Wells spelled starter Connor Davis, getting the Eagles the final out of a big third inning for SEMO and pitched three no-hit innings. He hit two SEMO batters and recorded one strikeout.

The Eagles jumped out early with two runs in the first inning. Center fielder Kyle Krupp led off with a walk and advanced to third on designated hitter Aubrey Kearns' single to left. With second baseman Nick Griffith up, Kearns advanced to second on a wild pitch. Griffith hit a hot shot up the middle and was put out as Krupp scored. Kearns then scored from second base on a wild pitch to round out the scoring

Southeast Missouri (25-11, 8-4 OVC) showed off its power in the bottom of the third with two home runs, including a Grand Slam by Redhawk right fielder Ryan Lopetegui to put SEMO ahead 5-4 and chase Eagle starter Connor Davis.

The Eagles, trailing 5-4, threatened a big inning in the seventh. Coomer led off with a single through the right side, Correa singled into left field. Third baseman legged out an infield single on a bunt to load the bases with no outs. MSU failed to cash in; a strike out and a double play turned back the rally.

SEMO reliever Jackson Kranawetter (1-1) took the loss, getting two outs in the ninth for the Redhawks.

Morehead State returns home to Allen Field at Prefontaine Park Tuesday for a mid-week non-conference tilt with in-state rival Bellarmine. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 p.m. ET. The game is scheduled to be broadcast on ESPN+; airtime is set for 5:00 p.m. ET.
