MOREHEAD, Ky. -- The Morehead State indoor volleyball and beach volleyball programs both earned Team Academic Awards from the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

Indoor volleyball has now won 18 consecutive awards and continues to lead the nation (among ALL divisions of college programs, men or women) in total number of awards. The Eagles, Indiana State (DI) and Concordia (Neb.) (NAIA) have earned 28 total awards since 1994.

"Academics are part of our identity as a program, and I truly believe that excellence on the court goes hand in hand with excellence in the classroom," said head coach Kyrsten Becker-McBride. "Earning this award for the 28th time is a testament to the standard our student-athletes have upheld over the years. Our alumni helped establish this tradition, and our current team has embraced the responsibility of continuing it."

Beach received its ninth consecutive award.

"I'm incredibly proud of the academic tradition our beach volleyball program has established," said Becker-McBride, who was beach head coach from 2020-23, then served as beach assistant, but will transition back to head coach for the 2027 season. "The AVCA Team Academic Award reflects what it really means to be a student-athlete, pursuing excellence in both the classroom and on the sand. Earning this recognition for nine consecutive years speaks to the commitment of our student-athletes, and we're excited to continue building a tradition that will soon rival our indoor program."

Team Academic Awards are bestowed upon programs who maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 or better.
