MOREHEAD, Ky. – The Morehead State soccer team will take to the road this weekend for a pair of Ohio Valley Conference soccer matches. The Eagles will face Eastern Illinois on Friday Oct. 8 in Charleston, Ill., at Lakeside Field, match time is scheduled for 4 p.m. MSU will then head to Cape Girardeau, Mo., to battle SEMO on Sunday Oct. 10 at 3 p.m., at Houck Stadium.
The Morehead State Eagles (6-6-0, 3-0-0) are coming into the match fresh off a 2-0 victory last Friday against Tennessee Tech. The Eagles scored a goal in each half on route to their third straight OVC win. The Eagles are tied for the OVC lead with EKU at nine points.
Up front, MSU is led by senior forward
Erin Adams who is 10th in the nation in goals scored with 10, which leads the OVC. Adams has scored in three straight games.
Giuleana Lopez has scored four goals in just seven games, which ranks her second in the OVC in goals per game (0.57). In the back the Eagles are led by senior
Micaela Hornstein who anchors a defense that has only allowed three shots on goal in three OVC matches. Between the pipes for the Eagles is
Lily Meisner who has three shutouts this season and has notched 37 saves. The Eagles have shutout two of their last three opponents.
The Eastern Illinois Panthers (4-8-2, 1-2-0) come into the match off a 1-0 loss at SEMO on Sunday. EIU is led by Kristen Germann and Ashley Streid who are first and second on the team in goals and points. Germann has four goals and eight points and Streid has two goals and four points. In net for the Panthers is Kaylin Lorbert has 51 saves and has posted four shutouts. The Panthers will face EKU on Sunday.
The Southeast Missouri State Redhawks (6-5-0, 2-1-0) come into the match off a 1-0 win over the EIU Panthers last Sunday. The Redhawks are currently in third place in the OVC race and are led by Ashley Runion and Stephanie Palmer. Runion leads the team with six goals and four assists and Palmer is second in goals with four. In goal for the Redhawks is Ashton Aubuchon who has 36 saves and four shutouts. SEMO has shutout their last two oppoents and has won three of their last four games.
The Eagles will host Austin Peay on Oct. 15 at 7 p.m., for their Kick For A Cure soccer match in Jayne Stadium. On Sunday Oct. 17, MSU will hit the road and travel to Jacksonville, Ala., to battle the Gamecocks at 2 p.m.
