CHARLESTON, Ill. –
Senior goalkeeper Lily Meisner recorded her fourth shutout of the season as Morehead State soccer battled Eastern Illinois to a nil-nil draw Friday afternoon in Charleston at Lakeside Field.

MSU was outshot 13-11, but held the advantage in corner kicks 9-6 and the Eagles were only hit with five fouls, while EIU was slapped with 11. The Eagles couldn’t find a way to beat Panther goalkeeper Kaylin Lorbert who notched five saves in the effort. Meisner had one of her best performances of the season as she saved seven Panther blasts.

"We came out a little flat to begin the game, but as the game went on, we picked up our intensity and had a good effort," said coach Warren Lypka.  "We have to understand that every team we play is gunning for us and we need to play passionate and intense every night."

Jillian Birchmeier and Giuleana Lopez led the MSU offensive attack as they both fired four shots. Birchmeier had two shots on goal which also led the team.

The draw moves MSU’s record to 6-6-1 on the season and 3-0-1 in the Ohio Valley Conference play. EIU now stands at 4-8-3 and 1-2-1 in the OVC.

"We had our oppurtunties, but unfortunetley we didn't finish, we had nine corner kicks and 11 shots we must find a way to convert those chances.  Anytime you go on the road and come away with points it is a very good thing" said Lypka.

On Sunday, Oct. 10, the Eagles will travel to Cape Girardeau, Mo., to battle the Southeast Missouri Redhawks in Houck Stadium at 3 p.m.
