MOREHEAD, Ky. – Morehead State got grand slams from
Taylor Davis and
Michael Fear and MSU scored a season high 21 runs on a season high 21 hits, as they routed IPFW Friday afternoon at Allen Field.
Jeff Arnold turned in a solid outing on the mound allowing just three runs in seven innings in the 21-6 Eagle victory.
MSU jumped out to a big lead, scoring seven runs in the first inning. The stanza was highlighted by a rally-capping
Travis Redmon home run. It was Redmon’s third long ball of the season.
The Eagles got another run in the second when Fear singled to drive in
Daniel Pugh.
The offensive outburst continued in the later innings as MSU scored five in the sixth, four in the seventh, and four in the eighth.
The Fear and Davis grand slams were part of the late inning burst as each went 4-5 and drove in a career high six runs in the game.
Redmon,
Drew Lee,
Andrew Deeds and Lucas Bainer also had multi-hit days for MSU (9-11). Lee,
Casey Branham,
Cameron Flynn each drove in a run while Redmon and Bainer each tallied a pair of RBIs.
Arnold pitched a strong seven innings, only giving up two solo home runs and allowing just a single run after IPFW (1-14) had put runners on second and third with nobody out in the top of the seventh.
Garrick Whittle finished off the game, giving up a three-run bomb in the eighth before pitching a perfect ninth.
MSU and IPFW continue their four-game set tomorrow with a 1 p.m. double header.
Game Notes:
Kellen Begeman recorded his first career hit, a single to right in the bottom of the eighth. Andrew Deeds is now on a five-game hitting streak.
