MOREHEAD, Ky. – Morehead State women’s soccer coach
Warren Lipka announced Thursday the hiring of former University of Kentucky assistant Jeremy Groves to the same position at Morehead State.
Groves was a four-year assistant at Kentucky, where in his first year he helped Lipka, then the head coach at UK, lead the Wildcats to an SEC Championship. Groves has also developed two men’s players now playing in Major League Soccer (MLS): Jason Griffiths (New England) and Barry Rice (DC United).
"Jeremy was on my staff at UK when we won the SEC championship and advanced to the NCAA's in 2006. He has been a player and grad assistant with the UK men's team when they won [Mid-American Conference] championships,” said Lipka. “He knows how to win, he is a winner. He also has been involved with club soccer the past five years, so he has the experience of finding talent. I look forward to having Jeremy help us win an OVC championship as we did in the SEC. The players will benefit from his experiences."
Groves played collegiately for Kentucky where he was a member of the 2003-04 Mid-American Conference Championship team in 2003-2004. He also represented British Universities in the World University Games in Greece in 2005.
“I have heard nothing but positive things about Morehead State University and its athletic department. It has a beautiful campus. I am excited and proud to be part of the Eagle family,” said Groves. “I want to continue on the success coach Lipka has brought to the program in the last year. Hopefully, we can go on and progress from last year’s success and go a couple of steps further.”
Groves received his bachelor of arts in kinesiology from the University of Kentucky in August of 2005 and is currently working on his Masters of Science in Teaching, Coaching, and Sports Leadership. Groves has his Football Association of England junior level coaching licenses, which is equivalent to a United States Soccer Federation C license.
