Eagle Soccer Awaits Jaguars and Bobcats

MOREHEAD, Ky.
– The Eagle soccer team will battle the South Alabama Jaguars of the Sun Belt Conference at home in Jayne Stadium on Friday Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. and then will host Mid-American Conference foe the Ohio Bobcats on Sunday Sept. 19 at 1 p.m. This weekend will be the mark two of five straight home games for the Eagles.

Morehead State (2-5-0) comes into the match coming off a 2-0 victory over Gardner-Webb last Sunday. The Eagles lost a heart-breaker last Friday 1-0 against USC Upstate in which the Eagles outshot the Spartans 27-2 and set a school record for corner kicks in a game with 22. The Eagles finished 1-1 in the Gardner-Webb Border Classic and won the tournament due to goal differential. MSU will be led by senior forward Erin Adams who leads the team in goals (5), shots (19), and points (11). Adams is tied for the OVC lead in goals and is first in goals per game (0.71). Junior forward Devan Jordan leads the team in assists and has posted 12 shots on the year and sophomore mid-fielder Sam Toepfer scored her first collegiate goal last Sunday against Gardner-Webb which was also the game winner. In goal for the Eagles will be senior goalkeeper Lily Meisner who posted her first shutout of the season in the win over Gardner-Webb and has 31 saves on the season.

The South Alabama Jaguars (2-4-1) come into the match coming off a 1-1 tie against Georgia State. The Jaguars were named co-champions of the Port City Classic with Troy. Kristyn Thacker (3), Kasey Crowe (2), and Brandi Smith (2) lead the team in goals. The Jaguars are averaging 13.7 shots per game and have 26 total corner kicks on the season. Between the pipes for USA is Melissa Drish who has 33 saves on the year.

The Ohio Bobcats (2-2-1) will face IPFW on Friday Sept. 17, before battling the Eagles on Sunday. The Bobcats are led by Catheryn Rogers who is tied for the team lead in goals (1) and shots (10). Rachael Philpot also has one goal and is second on the team in shots with seven. Mattie Liston has played all 470 minutes in goal for the Bobcats and has 29 saves while posting two shutouts. Ohio has scored four goals on the season all coming in the second half. The Bobcats are averaging 12.2 shots per game.

Next weekend the Eagles will kick-off their conference schedule at home on Friday Sept. 24 verses UT Martin. Kick-off is slated for 7 p.m. MSU will then host Murray State on Sunday Sept. 26 at 1 p.m.
