MOREHEAD, Ky. -- The Morehead State men’s basketball team (6-7, 0-0) begins Ohio Valley Conference play on Wednesday when it travels to Southeast Missouri (5-7, 0-0) for an 8:30 p.m. ET game. The contest will follow an MSU vs. SEMO women’s contest at 6 p.m.
The game will be webcast live on OVCSports.TV. It will also be broadcast on the Eagle Sports Network, which includes four affiliates in Eastern Kentucky and MSUEagles.com.
Morehead State has posted wins over Asbury (Ky.), West Alabama, Princeton, Mid-Continent (Ky.), Binghamton and Ball State this season. The Eagles finished second in the conference a year ago with a 13-5 record.
Southeast Missouri has registered victories over Harris-Stowe, Hannibal-LaGrange, Miami (Ohio), Southeastern Louisiana and Sacramento State. The Redhawks finished seventh in the league a year ago with a 6-12 record.
Morehead State is led by senior Terrance Hill (13.5 ppg), junior Milton Chavis (5.5 rpg) and senior Lamont Austin (2.8 apg). Hill scored a team-high 12 points in last Friday’s win over Ball State, while Chavis and junior Kahlil Owens yanked down nine rebounds apiece.
Southeast Missouri is paced by sophomores Tyler Stone (14.7 ppg, 7.5 rpg) and Lucas Nutt (3.0 apg). Junior Marland Smith tallied 21 points on 7-of-10 from the three-point line in last Thursday’s win over Sacramento State, while Stone grabbed nine boards.
Donnie Tyndall is in his sixth season as the head coach at Morehead State (102-77, .570) and his seventh year in charge of a college basketball program (132-82, .617).
Dickey Nutt is in his third season as the head coach at Southeast Missouri (22-52, .297) and his 16th year in charge of a college basketball program (211-238, .470). His older brother, Houston, is a former head football coach at four Division I schools, including Arkansas and Ole Miss. His younger brother, Dennis, is a former head men’s basketball coach at Texas State. Both of Nutt’s sons, Logan and Lucas, currently play for him at SEMO.
Morehead State owns a 23-16 all-time advantage against Southeast Missouri after winning both games in the 2010-11 series. Hill recorded a total of 15 points in the two tilts a season ago, while sophomore Drew Kelly added 13.
