MOREHEAD, Ky.--Saturday’s game will be the final regular season home contest for Morehead State men’s basketball this season, but more importantly it will mark the final game appearance in Johnson Arena for the three Eagle seniors: Sam Goodman, Demonte Harper and Kenneth Faried.
The men’s game, which tips off at 7:45 p.m., will follow the women’s home finale, before which senior Chynna Bozeman will also be honored. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to both games in support of breast cancer awareness, and to pack the arena for a final farewell to MSU’s four seniors. Both games are being sponsored by St. Claire Regional Medical Center.
The Eagle men are coming off a dominating win over Eastern Illinois Thursday in which four starters scored in double figures. Faried had his 20th double-double of the season with 18 points and 13 rebounds and Harper finished with 15 points. The win also kept MSU in second place, just behind Murray State in the race for the regular season title.
Southeast Missouri on the other hand is fighting to earn one of the eight spots in the OVC Tournament. The Redhawks are 7-18 overall and 5-9 in OVC play, putting them in seventh place, just ahead of UT Martin and Jacksonville State. Three SEMO players average double-figure scoring, led by Leon Powell’s 14.7 points and 8.0 rebounds per game. Anthony Allison tallies 12.2 points and Marland Smith chips in 11.9 per game. Nick Niemczyk was averging 13.4 points per game, but injuries limited him to just five games of action earlier in the season. The Redhawks have lost seven of their last nine games, gaining wins over Eastern Illinois and SIU Edwardsville.
After Saturday, Morehead State will head to arch-rival Easten Kentucky, Wednesday in an effort to avenge a home loss earlier this season.
