BRENTWOOD, Tenn.—Morehead State junior women’s golfer Emma Jonsson was named Ohio Valley Conference Golfer of the Week, her fourth award of the season, the league announced Wednesday.
Jonsson, a native of Taby, Sweden, took medalist honors at the EKU Lady Colonel Classic last week. She had rounds of 75-72-73 to finish at 220 (+4) and top the field of 78 golfers by one stroke. Jonsson had six birdies and 38 pars in the 54-hole tournament and made her move from eighth after day one to first after the final round. Her play helped Morehead State to its fourth victory of the season and it’s second consecutive team title in the Lady Colonel Classic. Morehead State has finished in the top five in eight of its 10 tournaments this year. Jonsson’s 75.8 stroke average currently ranks tied for third in the OVC.
MSU begins its chase for the OVC Championship next Thursday in Dickson, Tenn. at the Greystone Golf Club. The Eagles will be seeded third for the tournament based on last year’s finish.
