MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Morehead State sophomore Garrick Whittle earned Ohio Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week honors Monday afternoon. Whittle tossed a complete game, struck out 12 and earned the victory against conference opponent Tennessee Tech Saturday.
Whittle leads the Eagle pitching staff in wins with two and was dominant in his performance in the seven-inning series finale against the Golden Eagles. His 12 strikeouts were the highest of any MSU starter this season in a single game.
"I am very happy for Garrick," said coach Jay Sorg. "He has overcome a lot of adversity since the beginning of the season. When he has his fastball and slider working for him he is hard to beat."
The last pitcher to win Pitcher of the Week honors for Morehead State was former-Eagle Michael Bottoms during the 2009 season.
Eagle baseball returns to Allen Field Wednesday, April 27, to face Kentucky Wesleyan and Marshall in an afternoon doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
