Eagle Baseball Set For Home Series Against Austin Peay

GAME NOTES (PDF)

MOREHEAD, Ky. --
The Morehead State baseball team faces Ohio Valley Conference leader Austin Peay this weekend at Allen Field.

Saturday features a doubleheader and a free t-shirt giveaway for all MSU students, and the series finale will be played Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. both days.

The Eagles (7-30, 3-7 OVC) are coming off their first series victory of the season over conference foe Tennessee Tech last weekend. MSU followed a 10-5 game one loss with back-to-back wins to take the series nod. Sophomore Garrick Whittle earned OVC Pitcher of the Week honors for his performance in game two, a seven-inning complete game featuring 12 strikeouts from the Eagle lefty.

Following a midweek victory against non-conference Belmont Tuesday, 7-5, the conference-leading Govs (19-19, 7-4 OVC) visit Allen Field and face the Eagles for the first time since the 2009 season. Peay is led by a trio of talented starting pitchers including left-hander Jeremy Dobbs who leads the team with seven wins.

Dobbs (7-2, 4.05) is the projected game one starter for the Govs and will face senior Trey Smith (0-8, 7.62) Saturday. Whittle (2-3, 8.54) will take the hill in game two of Saturday's twinbill facing another lefty Jack Snodgrass (1-5, 3.57) and freshman Noah Smallwood (1-4, 8.19) will start the finale against southpaw Zach Toney (3-2, 4.33)

Last year’s series against Peay was cancelled due to inclement weather. Coach Jay Sorg is 2-3 all-time against the Governors and the Eagles are riding a two-game series winning streak against their conference foe.
